Celebrating Fresh Beginnings: AGNC Park at Circle City Prep’s New Culinary Chapter

3 Minute Read

It was a day of jubilation and culinary innovation on November 9th, 2023, as AGNC Park proudly attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony of Circle City Prep’s newly launched cafeteria – Circle City Cafe (C^3). This event wasn’t just a celebration of a new dining area; it marked a significant stride in community nourishment and educational growth.

The C^3, a result of a commendable $1.5 million investment backed by philanthropic donors, is more than a cafeteria. It’s a harbinger of change in a community where access to fresh and nutritious food is a challenge. Nearly every student at Circle City Prep qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch, underscoring the vital need for such an initiative.

This new space, with sleek seating and a vibrant atmosphere, opened its doors to students last month, replacing the prepackaged meals with fresh, healthy options like kale salads and produce bars. The impact was immediate and palpable. As Jonnah Davidson, a sixth-grader, enthusiastically shared, “This year, it feels like everything’s just new.” Jonnah’s experience of helping make a pizza in the new kitchen captures the essence of this transformation.

The cafeteria’s overhaul aligns with the broader vision of the Patachou Foundation’s “PataSchool” program. This partnership aims to replace prepackaged food with freshly prepared meals, a move that Matthew Feltrop, the executive director of the PataSchool program at the Patachou Foundation, describes as a challenge to “break the cycles [of poverty] through innovative approaches and sustainable strategies”.

AGNC Park has been privileged to contribute to this remarkable journey. In the 4th quarter of the year, we provided branding services for Circle City Prep to launch Circle City Cafe. Crafting the C^3 logo and other decals adorning the cafe walls, we aimed to encapsulate the spirit of freshness and community empowerment that this initiative represents. Witnessing our designs come to life during the ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by notable figures like Deputy Mayor Judith Thomas, Councilor Keith Graves, and representatives from The Mind Trust, local businesses, and several Circle City Prep partners, was an affirmation of our commitment to meaningful branding.

Circle City Prep’s Fresh Prep plan is a holistic approach, envisaging more than just a change in school meals. It’s about designing a replicable, state-of-the-art food service model, creating over 25,000 scratch meals annually, and building a community-focused food lab. This initiative also aims to provide job training and employment opportunities for parents and community members.

As AGNC Park, we are thrilled to have played a role in this transformative project. We look forward to continuing our support for initiatives that foster community growth and well-being.
